Establishing microlending at commercial banks

The Facility supports the introduction of micro and small lending activities in commercial banks that wish to target this attractive market segment. For example, at one of the leading banks in Moldova a small team of consultants, together with dedicated bank staff, set-up initial microlending operations in the head office and in a few branches. Market strategy, procedures and products were developed,and the necessary staff was trained. During the following roll-out phase, microlending activities were extended to all three regions of Moldova. As a result of this project, the bank is strongly positioned to compete in this new market, which helps it to diversify risk, grow its profit base and round-out its product offering.
