EFSE provides medium- to long-term funding to carefully selected, highly respected financial institutions in the target countries, including commercial banks, microfinance institutions and non-bank financial institutions. These institutions then lend the funds to end-borrowers. All partner lending institutions must fulfil the Fund's eligiblity criteria. These are based on financial strength, creditworthiness, compliance with EFSE business ethics, the entity's corporate governance and target group orientation.
The Fund also requires that the institution lend the granted funds exlusively to its specific target group. Partner lending institutions provide loans to micro and small enterprises in urban and rural areas, and to low-income households for housing purposes.
Currently, EFSE serves 58 partner lending institutions in the target region.
