Capacity building in agricultural finance for Finansbank and its clients
TARGET GROUP: Loan officers, banking managers, and rural clients involved in agricultural lending
OBJECTIVE: Strengthen Finansbank’s capacity and competitiveness as a top agricultural lender in the Turkish market, increase the financial literacy and productivity of its core agricultural client target groups, and promote agricultural lending in Turkey.
ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS: The project started with two days of classroom training on “Agriculture Sector Outlook and Investment Analysis” for 14 loan officers involved in agricultural lending. The next step was a three-day study tour to Frankfurt for 10 regional agricultural banking managers and staff of the Agriculture Banking Department at the head office. The April 2016 study tour included meetings with the leading agricultural financial institutions in Germany, training on innovative agri-lending schemes and trends, visits to agribusinesses around Frankfurt, and a simulation game on the bank’s process management. Finally, financial literacy training for rural clients was held in eight regions of Turkey from December 2015 to June 2016 and benefited a more than 620 agricultural producers and farmers. The training provided practical tools on successful business planning, including cash flow projections, and helped improve the understanding of banking products.
