Steady progress with a strong partner
Sergey Sinizkiy gazes at the horizon and says, “Ten years ago, I didn’t have to look that far to see where our fields ended. Today, we’re cultivating almost a hundred and fifty times more land. It’s not been easy, but it could have been a lot harder.”
Back in 2003, Sergey Sinizkiy was farming just four hectares of leased land. Without really planning for it, he had planted the seed for a thriving business, Dzherelo. In 2004, he leased 34 hectares; in 2005, 90; and in 2006, 215. By the end of 2012, Dzherelo had grown to 684 hectares and seven employees. Besides tilling winter wheat, spring barley and sunflower for local cooperatives and food producers, he was now also renting out farm equipment. If this spectacular success story is the product of Sergey’s determination and skills as a businessman farmer, he readily emphasises that having a strong partner made all the difference. “Megabank fully understood my situation. And if sometimes the going got tougher, I never felt I had to sugarcoat the news. And that also enabled them to react more quickly and provide effective support,” says Sergey.
Since 2007, loans totalling UAH 255,860 (ca. EUR 23,800) have enabled Sergey and Dzherelo to grow at a sustainable pace and prepare for an even brighter future.
Already, Dzherelo has signed leases to increase the land under cultivation by another 684 hectares – for a total of 1078.
