Big things have small beginnings
“That instant of fulfilment when I feel something tugging at the line – priceless!” Bratislav Gačanović smiles, contemplating the little box of Adut ‘Piggy Mix’ in his hand.
“It looks so small and yet what is in this little box has enabled me to build a successful business and hire four employees”, he adds. It all began eleven years ago, when he and a friend, both avid sports fishermen, realised they were onto something with the home-made special secret bait mixture they used at fishing contests. Not only were they winning more trophies than everybody else, but everybody else in Serbia, or so it seemed, also wanted to try some of this special mix on their own fishing line. It was only after proposing their formula to bait manufacturers, and being turned away every time, that Bratislav, encouraged by his friend – a prominent sports fisherman who prefers to remain anonymous – gave some serious thought to going into business on his own. He then talked about it with ProCredit Bank. The first loan of EUR 6,000 in 2005 went into a new stove and raw materials for his secret formula – just to meet local demand.
Adut started exporting four years ago, and demand from all over the world is increasing. Additional loans from ProCredit Bank enabled Bratislav to enlarge his premises, upgrade his manufacturing processes, and obtain the all-important certifications so vital to success at the international level.
